Pitcher's Mound
Girls in uniform
Cover the field.
The coach talks to the pitcher
And tells her to yield.
The windup comes.
The batter is ready.
Behind the plate,
The catcher is steady.
Concentration
Fills the air.
A soft, silent wind
Blows the pitcher's hair.
She lets the ball go
Using all her might,
And looming over her
Is the night light.
It happened.
Could it be?
The change-up came,
And the team shouts with glee.
The batter is sad.
As they watch the opposing team get in a line,
The losing coach mutters,
"Don't worry Champ. We'll get it next time."
The game of softball
Has its ups-and-downs, but
At the end of every game, the ball rolls and stops
At the pitcher's mound.
WOW!!! I'm so impressed!
